Cuttack – Chhatia

Chhatia is in Odisha state, Jajpur district. Chhatia is famous place near Cuttack and this place is famous for Chhatia Bata Temple.

Few months back I got a chance to visit that place. I went there to attend one of my friends marriage. Chhatia is popular in Odisha for Chhatia Bata Temple but you can find few other places over there which are worth to visit.

Udash Asram
Amarabati Math
Joruka Pahar

Chhatia Bata: is one of the famous Hindu temple of Odisha situated at “Chhatia” in Jajpur district of Odisha. It is devoted to Lord Jagannath and associated with Kalki, avatar of Lord Vishnu. Bata the old banyan tree in odia language. So the name of this temple is “chhatia bata” due to this old banyan tree which is present inside the temple boundary and beside the main temple of chhatia bata. Hadidas (saint in hindu religion) mentions this temple in the saga Maalika, predicting that "on a day when all living animals and human will die and fish will play at the steps of puri temple".

Jagannath Temple of Chhatia Bata is unique. It is because in any of the temples of Lord Jagannath, there are idols placed in the order as Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra. But in this temple it is placed in a different order as people used to speak. Here the order is Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Udash Asram: is a Hindu monastery a few kms distance from Chhatia Bata temple. I booked an Auto Rickshaw for few hours to visit all the places. Udash Asram is a very good and calm place.

You feel refresh in greenery and holy nature of the monastery

definitely a place for meditation

now time to visit King Place - Amarabati Math

Amarabati Math: a scattered ruins king palace.

now the place is empty, you will not find any royal things over there but you can find throne

shh… you may hear the steps of king.. 😊

then I found beauty with in ruins

and the broken idol of god, may be waiting for his worshiper

after saying bye to king …I went towards my last destination, Joruka Pahar

Joruka Pahar: Pahar a hill just 4-5 kms distance from amarabati math.

Finally I reached there

It was long time that I was out of the marriage ceremony, so time to go there …good bye.
